Betrayed!Hermione Fics

This a collection of Hermione-centred fics in the Grangerverse where, for a significant part of the fic, someone that Hermione cares about fails to believe her side of the story or hurts her greatly (even if inadvertently or by neglect).

It does not include fics where :

• Hermione starts off friendless, because you have to be friends with someone before you can be betrayed by them.
• Harry is betrayed with her, but the fic is more about him than her.

Due to personal bias, it also does not include fics where :

• Hermione ships with Ron.
• Harry always sticks by Hermione even though Ron or Ginny do not.
• Hermione cheats on Ron or has an affair with Harry while he's married to Ginny. My biased self considers those as 'Coming To Your Senses' fics.

Diary of an Angry Daughter by pstibbons. 2k drabble, complete. Tragedy. Since I detest crapalogue-compliant fics, I wrote one. It's a story of how the Weasleys pay for their enslavement of a (now deceased) Hermione.

From the Journal of Rose Granger (formerly Weasley):

It's six months since Mum died. Six months since my family was ripped apart... My father practically raped my mother, raped her for over twenty years. While everyone else looked on. Maybe they even helped, I dunno. I'm the child of a love potion. I don't deserve to exist.

** Emerald Fire by blossomed-angel. 24K words, last updated Oct 2005 but can be read as a complete fic. Sixth Year, no HBP. Hermione Granger is framed for a crime she did not commit. Attacked by everyone around her, she flees to Phinxgild, a different boarding school ... will her friends believe her when Dumbledore doesn't? No ships, perhaps a little boat at the end.

The week [after her alleged betrayal] passed by terribly. The Hufflepuffs, known for regarding loyalty very highly, were just as bad as, if not worse than, the Gryffindors, who had all taken to giving Hermione the cold shoulder. The Ravenclaws, who had always been angry with a Gryffindor beating them all academically, were positively delighted with the chance to taunt the girl. The Slytherins, regardless of her true loyalties, treated her as they always did, and jeered at her for having no friends, not even snivelling Longbottom. In fact, the Slytherins began to attack her more often, in the corridors, in classrooms, because she could not defend herself against a whole group of them. The other houses often stood by and watched. Strangely, inter-house unity seemed to have improved, much to Dumbledore's pleasure and Hermione's despair...

"I'm transferring schools," Hermione said.
"Why?" Ron asked again.
Hermione laughed.
"Isn't it obvious?"
Ron flushed and tried not to look at Hermione’s face. Hermione’s eyes were bloodshot and swollen from nightly grieving and she had cuts and bruises all over her. She had not tattled on anyone, although the headmaster had asked her to give him names. No, she let people hurt her, and she did not tell on them, because, one day, they would realise she was innocent, and when that day came, they would be remorseful. Whether she would forgive them or not, was yet to be decided. ...

"You will be missed, Miss Granger," said Albus Dumbledore.
"I doubt that people will miss me very much. At least, inter-house unity has been gained… at my expense." Hermione said dryly.
"I wish that it had been achieved some other way than violence."
"No one stepped in to my aid, Professor. Not even you." Hermione knew her words would wound him, but her anger was building and she felt the need for vengeance even stronger now.
"I apologise d-"
"No, Professor. You are not sorry. You are glad that there is peace within the school. You sacrificed me, Professor, and you should have considered that the night you summoned us to your office. You had no solid proof. You did not allow me to investigate, nor did you allow me to defend myself," Hermione said harshly.
It was only then that the headmaster truly saw the emotions that Hermione now had. Gone was the childish happiness; gone was the want for acknowledgement; gone was the burning desire for adventure. In her eyes, there was a broken spirit peering out at him. A broken and bitter person stood before him. She was a stranger. She was no longer the child who cared only for perfect results, or the one who had helped Harry save Sirius Black all those years ago. Her eyes were filled with pain. Dumbledore looked away, unable to look further. For the first time, he began to doubt his informant.

* The Best of the Best by Zencry. 11K WIP. Nice plot, needs a beta at the start.

The last time Harry and Ron saw Hermione Granger was Graduation Day. They told her to get out of their lives since they had no use for a homework helper any more. They were trying to keep her safe. It was a stupid idea, and two months later, she was killed in a rogue Death Eater accident.

But she hadn't died. Instead, she was a member of the Elite Auror Squad, and the best of the best, a woman who could bring Lucius Malfoy to tears in an interrogation room in an hour. A woman who wanted nothing to do with her past. A woman who was extremely upset when her next mission required cooperation with the Order of the Phoenix.

* The Muggle by LeoGryffin. 35K words, last update April 2004. Hermione has been cast out of the Wizarding World under dubious circumstances. After five years of exile, a sinister plot emerges against her. Fortunately, Snape and Draco are on her side. Unfortunately, she doesn't know it.

** Nox by Tinhen. 46K words, complete with a nasty ending that will leave you calling for the author's blood. Hermione was exiled for a crime she may or may not have committed. Draco finds her by the side of the road...

"Hey, Malfoy, Did you think, back then, that I killed her?"
At first, he didn't respond. "I couldn't imagine," he began slowly, "that you had the capacity for murder, not to sound derogatory, of course. You always seemed too saintly to me for that. But then all that evidence was presented. You're very lucky you only got exiled."
"So I could end up in America with no money and no wand to live as a whore? Malfoy, you're full of shit. I'd rather be dead." He looked up into the mirror again, but her eyes were still focused on the scenery. "My parents. . .I don't know if they're dead or not, 'cause they exiled me just like the Wizarding World did, disowned me, they did. I'd rather be Blank."
"Ah," he said with a smirk. "Preferring a snog with a Dementor to living is a sure-fire sign of some form of insanity."

** How the Other Half lives by darknessnl. Hermione's parents are killed at the hands of the Order while being used as bait for the Death Eaters. Hermione is not amused, and stops trusting Dumbledore, Harry, and the Order in general. She starts reading the Dark Arts for `recreation'...

"You know, Hermione, I'm glad that we're not friends anymore. Because the only thing you were ever good for was copying off of, and that's only because you were stupid enough to let us do it. And now we won't have to share the glory when we defeat He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. And no one will know your name. And everyone will see you as the girl who was selfish and abandoned her friends when they needed her. So I'm really glad that you're not dragging us down anymore. I never thought we needed you, and I only agreed to be your friend because Harry felt bad about what we'd said to you back in first year, not because you're interesting or personable. And some days, Hermione, I really wish we'd left you in that bathroom with the troll that Quirrell let in, because that would've solved so many problems. So you know what, Hermione, thank you for saving us the trouble and just walking away from us. So you can go back to your boring life of Muggle obscurity and never care about anything but books and learning something new. And you can sit home and study and never have any fun for the rest of your miserable life."

Harry took Ron on the Horcrux Hunt, leaving Hermione behind. She helped them anyway. When Harry and Ron chucked her into Azkaban after the Final Battle, she promptly pulled a Sirius, escaping and fleeing the country. She then wrote a book, a polemic against Pureblood Society. Ten Years have passed. British Mudbloods are leaving in droves. The Ministry is worried. They'd like Hermione back to stop the exodus. She thinks they are delusional.

Peppered with quotes from the book... "The pureblood Mudbrains think that Mudbloods should be kept out of Magical Society. They make a good point. Why on earth would we want to be part of it? Magical Society in Britain is like a dirty little pond contaminated with the excrement of the inbred three-eyed fish living in it.. Why would healthy fish like us want to swim and choke in it when there's the ocean of the Muggle world available to us? Not to mention more civilized Magical societies."

"Yes," said Hermione, "it was. I don't suppose I can say much to you that you haven't already said to yourself. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. You always favoured him over me. What did I have to do to get you to listen to me? Become Quidditch mad? Throw away my c-nt and add an f--king p-nis?"
"It wasn't like that, Her - Granger," Harry protested.
"Oh, really? Name me one instance where Weasley and I argued and you supported me. And I don't mean standing aside, saying nothing. At best, you remained neutral - when you knew I was right. That's the same as supporting Weasley, and you know it."

Dark Angel by BeautifulBlackRose. 5K, WIP, quite possibly abandoned. Ginny replaces Hermione in the Trio, triggering Hermione's latent powers and her eventual rise to become the consort of Voldemort.

*She Was Vanilla (AFF version) by CrimsonAcid. 22K, complete. Everyone loves Hermione... except Harry and Ron, who think she's ordinary and plain. Blaise and Zabini decide to change things. Featuring many good Remus-Hermione friend moments as well. Harry-and-Ron-bashing.

“Lavender said that Hermione is vanilla, she is safe, constant, and reliable. She is the type of girl that an average guy can spend his average life with. She isn’t filled with passion, or wildness, or even a drop of spontaneity. Its like when you go to buy ice cream and there are all these exotic flavors that you have never tried out and then there is vanilla. If you are adventurous you will choose the unknown one, but if you aren’t you choose Hermione, you choose Vanilla.”

** Broken by inadaze22. Draco finds himself in a world where Potter, Weasel and Weaslette hate Hermione, and Pansy is her best friend. Needless to say, he is confused and wants to know what the effin heck is going on... one off the best locales of confrontational scenes in the Grangerverse.

When I Needed You The Most by Lyr942. WIP. The Dumb Trio (Harry, Gin, Weasel) stop being friends with Hermione to keep her safe. It doesn't quite work that way.

The Assassin by imslytherinatheart. WIP. After several months of torture in captivity by Lucius, Hermione spilled the beans on the Order, causing several deaths in the final battle. As a result, she is ostracized by Harry and wizarding society, who refuse to find out exactly what happened. She is picked up off the streets to become an assassin for the Ministry. What happens when Draco and others finally find out exactly what she went through in Lucius' dungeons? Will it be too late to bring her emotions back?

--The Legend of Guilly Granger by Priah. 165K complete. After Voldy's defeat, the world of Hogwarts' students seems to drastically change. Abandoned by their peers, two people, one sadistic, the other sarcastic, decide to stick together and slake their thirst for mortifying revenge. Humor, Dramione.

-Do I want to forgive and forget by eterna-romantica03. WIP. Hermione is thrown out of the Trio's lives after she chooses Draco over Ron. She returns to her parents home, pregnant, while Draco is sent to Azkaban. Now, three years later...

Hermione saw concern in Ginny’s eyes. “Expressing remorse and regret is not enough, you know. It’s not a guarantee of forgiveness nor does it erase the words or the actions of some.”

Hermione’s accusatory tone deflated Ginny. It was not going to be easy. Ginny straightened herself. She searched for the right words and decided to let her heart do the talking. “We all made mistakes and nothing I do or say will change what happened. The war, the dead, the pain, I don’t know, Hermione, I was so tired, so angry and then... I never imagined you with somebody else. We all could see how you felt about my brother and he about you, it was so obvious. I now understand you needed more from him. Believe me, I do understand but... Draco! The same guy who loathed Muggles more than anything else, the one who treated you like dirt for six years. The son of Death Eaters!”

Hermione interrupted her. “It was for me to decide, Ginny, not you, or Harry or anyone; you should have trusted me. You should have known me better. People accused me of being a traitor, a traitor! Of course they would when none other than Ron Weasley was screaming it at the top of his lungs and Harry Potter said nothing.”...

“I wasn’t looking for your approval; I was looking for understanding and guidance from my friends because I was so confused. I was falling for Draco Malfoy; it was not supposed to happen ever! He ... is not, was not the person I thought. You didn’t have to like him, you needed to trust me. My best friends ... Ginny, I loved you all so much, I still do. Tell me how do I forget? How do I forgive you?”

* Broken Wings by Midnight Walker. 48K, last update Dec 2006. Over the summer Hermione Granger was bitten by a vampire. Her friends reject her, and she feels alone. Soon a new threat begins to threaten the wizarding world...

* Guilty until Proven Innocent by LadySiwnf. 10K WIP. Hogwarts is finished for the famous trio, except one friend will not be joining in the celebrations: Hermione Granger is being hunted by the Ministry for the attempted and near fatal murder of Harry Potter. Now she's on the run, hunted by those she once called friends and allies. She joins the Dark Side, hoping to find evidence to prove her innocence.

* What Time Can Never Heal by M0jojojo. 27K WIP. Dramione. Harry introduced Hermione to a guy who then forces her into an abusive marriage. She finally escapes, but the nightmare isn't over yet.

** Secret Life by Atruwriter. Not quite a betrayal fic, but Harry and Ron moving away from Hermione and not realizing she's having a far more interesting life than they ever thought. Besides, this author is incapable of writing badly.

Leaving Past Love and Finding New Love by forkslover1. 37K, complete. Hermione loved Harry. He cheated on her with Ginny. She'll probably end up happier though.

--Times of Terror by Seething Pyro. 15K last update Dec 2003. Harry and Ron abandon Hermione for Voldemort. Draco wants to do anything he can to help her.

* A Betrayed Fate by tinkerbell-goddess. 50K words, last update Dec 2006. "Love can't be forced. In the case of Hermione and Draco it isn't even an option. But with embarassing spells, backstabbing friends, proposals, and accusations going around emotions are running high and the concept of love is becoming more skewed than ever."

Memories by justcrazyobsessed. 6K, complete. Hermione argued with Harry and Ron about something ... she just can't remember what. At their Ten Year Reunion, she finds out... and she is not amused. A few childisms, but ok for a quick read.

"St. Mungo's? He survived? Well then, you two... I need to get some sleep. I have a long day tomorrow. If either of you try to stop me from leaving I swear on your lives, I will not hesitate to risk getting thrown into Azkaban for murder. Understood? ... I could kick both your behinds at once in a wizard duel. Don't tempt me."

What becomes of the Broken Hearted by Riverdeep. Ron cheated on Hermione with Lavender. Harry knew about it and didn't tell her. Hermione doesn't intend to forgive either.

Harry and Ron and the Order then turn on her... and she's pushed to join the side of Snape and Tom Riddle.

And Then Rose the Phoenix by ladyinthecloak. 5K, complete. Post-HBP. Hermione starts to question Snape's guilt.

My interest in the rest of the wizarding world was waning fast. Harry had given in to Scrimgeour's demands and offers and became the Ministry's poster boy soon after he'd called me a traitor when I finally told him how I was able to tip him off so often in the last months of the war...

** Not Everything by Dream4. 28K, last update May 2006 but close enough to the end. Fred/Hermione. Ginny lied, and caused everyone to push Hermione away from Magical Britain. Noone gave her a chance to explain her side of the story, not even her fiance Fred. Harry hexed her on the streets despite the number of times she had helped him and believed him when no-one else did. A year later, it emerges that Hermione saved Arthur Weasley, Ginny confesses, ... and Hermione has disappeared.

... "So you destroyed her reputation," said George to Ginny, looking horrified. "Did you know that you personally have set back muggle-wizarding relations over three decades? Bloody hell! The Ministry of Magic has Aurors looking for her body as we speak! What the hell were you thinking!" ...

"You know," mutters George as he takes a sip of his drink. "Everyone is wondering if you're ever going to forgive them. Are you going to forgive them?"
Snorting, Fred takes a sip of his drink. "It's not them, that I can't forgive but myself."
"It's not like you had any idea of what they were planning," states George, shaking his head. "They executed that plan of theirs perfectly. Hell, it wasn't until dad was found that they even came clean with it!"
"I know," mutters Fred. "I know. But I didn't even give her a chance. Not one. She deserved better then that. Bloody hell! She didn't deserve half of the crap that this family has put her throw!" Huffing in disgust, Fred continues, "She had her name ruined. All of her plans were destroyed, so that this family... could... argh!"

* That Fateful Day by charlie-is-my-favorite-weasley. 5K complete. Fred/Hermione. Grammar issues.

"Yes," Fred replied "I just miss her so much! I don't know how I ever believed Ron in the first place. I should have known by the look on her face when I told her I never wanted to see her again, she looked crushed like I had just told her that her parents had been brutally murdered or something, and she even had told me that she had the best news for me, she was glowing, and now I'll never know what it was."

Eye of the Tigress by pstibbons. AU. Hermione doesn't look human - because she isn't. When she was twelve, she inadvertently discovered that the effect of Polyjuice on her species was to remove any glamours they wore. When she was seventeen, she and Harry slept with each other, causing a series of events that resulted in her thrown out of Clan Weasley. Now she's thirty, her race of half-felines is threatened, and she's been ordered to get Harry's help. Proving that she was innocent is easy - working with the father of her two cubs on the other hand...

Kiss of the Traitor by Padfoot Lives. 59K, last update May 2006. HHr. They thought Hermione betrayed them, and chased her away. They were wrong. Many years later, Harry finds her. He wants what they once had, but she's unwilling to trust him again. Besides, her days are numbered, thanks to Dolohov.

Hermione is Harry's friend, and will do anything for him - even while he accuses her of turning Dark while she brings back his dogfather from the dead. Highly bitchy Ginny. (“Quidditch is the wizard sport, Hermione," said Ginny. "It’s our greatest entertainment. You don’t understand because you are a muggleborn. You weren’t born in our world like me and my family neither do have magical parents like Harry's... don’t get me wrong, but I think you don’t REALLY belong to our world... He [Harry] cares about you, of course! Ron too. But they know that you only think about your studies. They had already accepted that you’re not a funny person. I love you, Hermione but you are boring! I am sorry but it’s true...")

You Only Live Thrice : The Tale of Elsa Jones by pstibbons. 30K.

Hermione is accused of the murder of Ginny Weasley, and has her face burnt off by Ginny's fiance Harry before being thrown into Azkaban. She is retrieved by a corporate empire and given a new life in a Mission Impossible like team that carries out various unethical activities all over the world... until one day, her past is discovered and she has to return... or so they say. She doesn't want to return. Can she find a way out?

* Where the Heart Is by darkgoddess2002. Oneshot. Harry betrayed Hermione. After several years, he discovered the truth. He wants her back. For some strange reason (called 'Harry is a bloody idiot'), she doesn't think that's on the cards.

* It's All About Hermione by Demoness-MarlstonWells69ner. 112K. Hermione/OC. Ginny turned Harry and Ron against Hermione. Hermione left for the magical school for demons that she attended in secret before Hogwarts. Warnings for grammar, childisms, and overthetopness. Liked it in the initial chapters before too many OCs were added.

I Will Be There For You by Rana Rai. 48K, last update March 2005. Hermione/Seamus. Harry bashing.

The Game by Marionette. 18K. Ginny killed Hermione. In the afterlife, she meets Draco. He's dead, also betrayed. They are sent back to stop themselves dying... but it's easier said than done.

No longer a Mudblood by MistressMalfoy. Hermione/Zabini. Blaise married someone else because she was a Mudblood. But Hermione was never one. He's going to wish he had the guts to stand up against his bigoted parents for Hermione Malfoy.

When it all goes wrong by JustADoll. The war is over. People change.

"You've seen sense about Malfoy then." Harry said. It wasn't a question.
"No, actually."
Harry looked at her. "You're not still seeing him?" Hermione shrugged.
"I've just come from having dinner with him." Harry face darkened and he moved away from her.
"I don't believe this, Hermione." Harry ran his hand through his hair in slight distress. “Have you thought about why he might be trying to get close to you?"
Hermione didn't bother to reply. She had no answer. "Why couldn't you have just done what Ron has done. Found someone on our side, who doesn’t have such screwed up ideas." She glared at him.
"Please elaborate."
"He's engaged, Hermione. To that girl, Vicky. They're getting married at Christmas."
"What does Molly think about all this?"
"Oh she's thrilled. She says Vicky's a lovely girl. She was obviously a little upset after Ron dumped you, but she soon got over it." Hermione flinched.
"Ron cheated on me with Vicky, have you forgotten? I don't have to listen to this."
"You're right, you don't," Harry said, gesturing to the door. "I'll talk to you again when you've seen sense."
